Every painting by Massimo Meucci seems to be the result of organized chaos. His way of working follows an apparently uncalculated mechanical system of rituals. When he works on canvas with an emotional frenzy, everything depends on his state of mind at the time, and when he succeeds in transfusing what he wants into the magma of color - and therefore when he knows his work is finished - he feels exhausted as if he has just woken up from a troubled dream. Sometimes, a painter decides to abandon genre types, such as figurative art, landscapes or portraits. In these cases, I believe that the recognizable image has reached a sort of saturation point and it is in this light that we should look what happened some years ago to this extrovert artist, who has permanently abandoned traditional painting, without resorting to compromise. Overtime, he has become a skilled abstract artist, having followed the development of the work of those masters of Informal art who have been at the forefront of the history of the post-World War II Italian avant-garde. We are therefore seeing not a linguistic contradiction, but a necessary and inevitable improvement in quality-level. With Meucci, though, there is not so much a problem with contrasts between form and non-form, but rather between non-form and expressive absolute of the mass of pigment, with which he tries to transmit above all passion and emotion to the onlooker.
